The total investment of this Christmas attraction was 13.6 billion reais (about 3.317 million dollars), of which the Mayor's Office contributed 19% and the rest was financed by the energy distribution company Light. The largest floating Christmas tree, one of the main attractions of the city, was lit for the first time in 1996 but, after its break in two by a strong blizzard in 2015, it turned off its lights in 2016 and 2017 due to the economic crisis that then he hit Rio de Janeiro, and from which he still fails to recover completely.
The Christmas attraction of the "wonderful city" came back on in December of last year with 15 meters less height, returning to a Carioca tradition of more than 20 years.
